Description

Grow Moonflower from fresh Ipomoea alba flower seeds. Moonflower is a beautiful vining plant that produces pure white flowers, that span 6 inches in diameter. Closely related to the Morning Glory, it’s leaves are heart shaped and it’s vines grow to a mature length of 8 to 10 feet long. Grow Moonflower to cover a fence or trellis for delightful blooms that will begin to open in the evening hours of the day.

Grown as an annual flowering vine, the Moonflower establishes itself quickly, blooms heavily through the summer months, then later dies with the first frost. For a beautiful contrast add Moonflowers to an area with dark fencing, or grow it with our “Kniolas Black” Morning Glory.

Sowing The Seed

Moonflowers can be started indoors, or directly outdoors. Whichever method you choose, it is best to soak the seeds for 24 hours or scar them with a knife or sandpaper, prior to sowing. If started indoors, sow in peat pots 6 to 8 weeks prior to the last frost, at a depth of 1” under topsoil. Transplant or direct sow outdoors when the weather is warm and all danger of frost has passed.

Growing Conditions

Moonflowers will enjoy an area that receives full sunlight for the majority of the day. They prefer a rich soil that is also very well drained. Adding compost to your area of hard compact soil will improve drainage. Water daily with a mild water setting so that the soil is moist until germination has occurred.

Germination & Growth

Your Moonflower seeds will begin to germinate within 7 to 21 days after sowing. The plants grow to a mature length of 8 to 10 feet long and can be spaced 12 to 18 inches apart from one another. Moonflowers display beautiful, 6 inch, pure white flowers that begin to bloom in the evening hours of the day.
