Cherry Queen Zinnias are a variety of Zinnia elegans, renowned for their striking cherry-red color. These flowers typically grow to a height of about 30” to 40” tall, featuring large, double-petaled blooms that can reach up to 5” in diameter. Their vibrant color makes them a standout in any garden, attracting both pollinators and gardeners alike.

First bred for their ornamental qualities, Cherry Queen Zinnias have become popular in bedding displays and borders since their introduction. They're favored not only for their color but also for their ease of growth, making them suitable for both novice and experienced gardeners. Beyond aesthetics, these zinnias are also cut flowers, lasting well in vases, and they're occasionally used in cottage gardens to add a pop of color amidst other flora.

GROWERS TIP

Zinnias are native to South America, which means they will thrive in the heat and sunlight. Plant them on the edge of your garden to allow them to spread out when pinched back. The term “pinching back” simply means to snip the zinnia at a lower leaf node prior to it flowering. This will allow the plant to spend more energy in creating multiple branches, thus rewarding you with more blooms later on. As a side note, zinnias become more drought tolerant as they grow stronger.
