Description
Grow a garden filled with Globe Gilia, from freshly harvested Gilia capitata flower seeds. Globe Gilia is native to most of the Western states. It will produce indigo colored flowers all through the summer months. The plants display dark green foliage, growing to a mature height of roughly 12 to 24 inches tall. Globe Gilia blooms consist of 50 to 100 smaller blooms, which create one large globe like flower. These plants are fairly drought tolerant once established, and are adored by many beneficial insects as well. Due to its sweet scent, bumblebees, butterflies, honeybees & hummingbirds will cling to these beauties throughout its life span.
Globe Gilia, also known as "Queen Annes Thimble” or “Blue Thimble Flower,” is categorized as an annual flowering plant. Annual plants will grow quickly from seed, bloom profusely through the summer months and later die with the first frost. Seeds can be collected at the end of the season to regrow the following Spring. Seeds from the Globe Gilia flower can also drop to the bare ground beneath, naturally regrowing the following year.
Globe Gilia wildflowers are great in flower beds, pots & containers, along driveways, roadsides, walkways and even in a naturalized setting. They look especially beautiful when sown by the masses. Try adding similar wildflowers to your garden filled with Globe Gilia, for a sea of gorgeous blue blooms. Wildflowers such as Chinese Forget-Me-Not, Perennial Lupine, Chicory and California Bluebell are great additions.
