Basket of Gold (Alyssum saxatile) is a charming annual known for its vibrant, golden-yellow flowers that bloom profusely in the late spring to late fall. These flowers create a striking visual impact, often used to cascade over rock walls or spill from containers, making them perfect for rock gardens, borders, or as ground cover where their bright blooms can stand out.

This plant is not only visually appealing but also practical for gardeners. Basket of Gold is relatively easy to grow, thriving in well-drained soil and full sun, which makes it quite low-maintenance. It's an excellent choice for attracting pollinators like bees and butterflies to the garden, enhancing biodiversity.

GROWERS TIP

Alyssum is extremely easy to grow from seed and can be started indoors, or directly outdoors. If starting indoors, sow 3 to 5 seeds per starter pot, 6 to 8 weeks prior to the last frost. Transplant or direct sow in the spring when temperatures are at least 65°F and all danger of frost has passed. Once the plants are well established they are quite drought resistant and deer resistant as well.
