Grow Red Sun Sunflowers from fresh Helianthus annus flower seeds. Red Sun is a branching variety of Sunflower, which produces vibrant red petals, accented with a dark brown center. Each plant will grow to a mature height of roughly 5 to 6 feet tall, and will produce 5 to 6 inch blooms. Red Sun displays up to 10 gorgeous flowers per plant, and will attract all sorts of beneficial insects to the garden as well. Some of these insects include butterflies, bumblebees, honeybees and hummingbirds.
Categorized as an annual flowering plant, Red Sun Sunflowers will grow quickly from freshly harvested seeds. The plants will produce stems, leaves and then flowers, all within a single growing season. When the cooler temperatures of the late Autumn season arrive, your sunflowers will begin to wilt. Before the first frost, you can gather the seeds from your plants to resow the following year. Be careful however, as many squirrels, birds and other animals will be after them as well.
