Description

Grow a garden filled with the beautiful Gloriosa Daisy, from freshly harvested Rudbeckia hirta flower seeds. Gloriosa daisy is a relative to the Black-Eyed Susan, which displays a similar looking flower. The blooms can vary from pure yellow, to golden yellow, accented with a fiery red flare, toward the center of the flower. Gloriosa Daisy flowers expand to a large width of 3 or 4 inches, when in full bloom. The plants themselves will reach a mature height of roughly 12 to 36 inches tall.

Gloriosa Daisy is categorized as a perennial flowering plant. This means that each plant will establish a deep root system the first year of growth, which allows them to return yearly, even after all plant life has wilted on the surface. Gloriosa Daisy is also known to produce a fair amount of seeds, which can fall to the bare ground beneath, growing completely new plants the following growing season. They are easily grown, require little to no maintenance and bloom from early summer until the late Autumn season.

These gorgeous plants are grown in flower gardens all over the United States and are known to attract an array of beneficial insects to the garden. Insects such as butterflies, honeybees & bumblebees will cling to these flowers. Other bugs & birds, such as hummingbirds, ladybugs & caterpillars love the Gloriosa Daisy as well. This particular daisy can be used in Perennial borders, along fences, walkways, driveways and more. Gloriosa Daisy is also popularly used in many flower beds, raised beds, in fields or a naturalized setting and often go great with Black-Eyed Susans, Coreopsis, Coneflower, Cherry Brandy Rudbeckia and more.

Sowing The Seed

Gloriosa Daisy is easily established directly outdoors, but can be started indoors for transplanting later in the Spring season. If started indoors, sow in peat pots, 6 to 8 weeks prior to the last frost. Since the seeds will require direct light to properly germinate, it is imperative that you do not cover the seeds with topsoil. When the weather is warm and all danger of frost has passed, either direct sow outdoors or transplant entire peat pots into the garden.

Growing Conditions

Gloriosa Daisy will thrive in an area that receives full sunlight for the majority of the day. They prefer temperatures that exceed 70F and are very adaptive to various sowing mediums. They do however prefer a soil that is well drained. To increase drainage, we recommend adding a light compost to areas containing hard, compact soil. The seeds should be lightly watered each day, with a mist setting or spray bottle, until germination has occurred. You can water less frequently once the plants are fully matured, since they are quite drought tolerant.

Germination & Growth

Germination of your Painted Daisy seeds will occur within 7 to 10 days after sowing. The plants reach a mature height of roughly 12 to 36 inches tall, and can be spaced out accordingly. Remember the plants look best when sown by the masses, so try not to space them more than 8 to 12 inches apart from one another. Each plant will produce multicolored blooms, attracting an array of beneficial insects to the garden, such as butterflies, bumblebees & honeybees.
