Description

Grow a garden filled with Triple Curled Parsley, from freshly harvested Petroselinum crispum seeds. Triple Curled Parsley is a more decorative variety, which is popularly used in garnishing. Some can argue that its flavor is not as strong as its flat leaf relative. This variety is a bit more attractive however, growing to a mature height of only 10 to 20 inches tall. The leaves form a compact growth habit, much like that of a miniature bush. These herbs can be grown in pots and containers, or directly in the garden as well. You can even grow them alongside other low growing flowers, such as pansies and violas for an attractive, vibrant green display.

Triple Curled Parsley is categorized as a biennial herb. They grow quickly from freshly harvested seeds, displaying their dark green leaves through the late Spring and early Summer months. Triple curled Parsley is not too fond of heat and will grow slowly through the summer months. Planting in early Spring and early Fall is recommended. The plants can return the following year to flower if the roots aren't damaged and the winter isn't too harsh. Allowing these plants to flower in its second year of life can result in the harvesting of fresh Parsley seeds. Be weary of caterpillars when growing this variety of Parsley, since they will eat them up as quickly as you will.

To harvest, simply clip a small portion of the leaves at any given time.

Sowing The Seed

Triple Curled Parsley will thrive in the cooler temperatures of Spring and Fall. It is recommended to begin sowing indoors, 6 weeks prior to the last frost, or at the end of the Summer season. Sow the seeds in peat pots, at a depth of 1/16" under topsoil. The seeds will require a bit of direct light to properly germinate, so do not bury them too deep. Transplant or direct sow when the weather is mildly warm and all danger of frost has passed.

Growing Conditions

As explained, Triple Curled Parley will thrive in cooler regions and should be grown in temperatures of about 70F to 75F. They will enjoy an area of full sunlight to partial shade. The soil can be average to rich, but should also be well drained. To improve your drainage, we recommend adding a light compost to any areas that consist of hard, compact soil. Water the seeds daily, with a mist setting or spray bottle, until germination has occurred.

Germination & Growth

The germination of your Parsley seeds will typically occur within 7 to 14 days after sowing. The plants will reach a mature height of roughly 10 to 20 inches tall, displaying compact, dark green foliage. The plants can be spaced about 12 to 18 inches apart from one another, or grown in individual pots and containers. To harvest, simply clip any number of leaves from the plants at any given time.
