Description

The “Clemson Spineless 80” Okra is essentially an improved version of the “Clemson Spineless” that was an All-America winner way back in the late 1930’s. Use this delicious okra fried, in soups, stews, and gumbos. Like all okra, the Clemson Spineless 80 thrives in warmer climates, but can also be planted effectively up north!

I put probably close to 40 if these seeds in water for 24 hrs, then in a damp paper towel in a Ziploc bag for another 24 hrs. All of them sprouted! I had so many that I sadly couldn't plant them all. I got started a little later than planned, so it was already super hot outside (we had August weather in June!) when I planted them in my raised bed, and only about half of those I planted made it, I think mainly due to the heat. Those that made it are thriving, though. I expect to start getting some okra soon.

This okra has been thriving in the hot Phoenix summer. The plants have been producing about a pod every other day, so we have a constant supply. You have to be quick to pick them. I've missed a day here and there, and suddenly have a few huge pods that I guess will have to be next year's seeds.
