Carousel Zinnias, scientifically known as Zinnia elegans, are a vibrant addition to any garden with their distinct bi-colored flowers. These zinnias display a mesmerizing whirl of colors, often featuring bright centers surrounded by contrasting petals that look like a spinning carousel, hence their name. Their flowers can range from pinks and yellows to oranges and reds, creating a dynamic visual effect.

Originating from Mexico, Carousel Zinnias have been cultivated for centuries, prized for their bright blooms and easy growth. They're not just garden ornaments; these zinnias attract pollinators like butterflies and bees, making them beneficial for ecological gardens. Additionally, their cut flowers last long in vases, adding color to indoor spaces, and they're often used in floral arrangements for their eye-catching patterns.

GROWERS TIP

Zinnias are native to South America, which means they will thrive in the heat and sunlight. Plant them on the edge of your garden to allow them to spread out when pinched back. The term “pinching back” simply means to snip the zinnia at a lower leaf node prior to it flowering. This will allow the plant to spend more energy in creating multiple branches, thus rewarding you with more blooms later on. As a side note, zinnias become more drought tolerant as they grow stronger.
