Description

Grow a garden filled with Annual Candytuft flowers, from freshly harvested Iberis umbellata wildflower seeds. Candytuft is a moderately short growing wildflower that produces clusters of gorgeous flowers, in shades of pink, white and purple. Growing to a mature height of roughly 12 to 18 inches tall, it is a bit taller to its perennial cousin. This stunning plant will attract an array of beneficial insects to the garden, including butterflies, hummingbirds, bumblebees and ladybugs as well.

Chosen as one of the easiest wildflowers to grow from fresh seed, the Candytuft plant will establish quickly through the first season. It is categorized as an annual flowering plant, so it only has a lifecycle of one growing season. It readily self seeds however, dropping its seed to the bare ground before the seasons end. If the seeds are not disturbed, new plants will emerge from the ground the following season. A lot of gardeners stay away from Annual flowering plants, but when it comes down to it, Annual flowering plants are among some of the most colorful to choose from.

Sowing The Seed

Annual Candytuft is extremely easy to establish from freshly harvested wildflower seed. Prior to sowing, make sure that you remove all unwanted plant life from the sowing area, turning the dirt, or replacing it with fresh, new soil. You can then begin scattering your Candytuft seeds to the surface of the soil, covering them thinly with 1/16" of topsoil. they require a bit of direct lighting to properly germinate, so don't burry them to deep.

Growing Conditions

Candytuft flowers will enjoy an area of full sunlight for the majority of the day. Temperatures should be kept at roughly 70F to 80F for optimal growth. The soil should be light & fluffy and will also need to be well drained. Adding a light compost to areas of hard, compact soil will increase your drainage. Water daily with a light mist setting so that the seeds and plants are moist but not soaked.

Germination & Growth

Your Annual Candytuft seeds will begin to germinate within roughly 7 to 21 days after sowing. The plants will reach a mature height of 12 to 18 inches tall and can take up about 10 to 12 inches of land. Space the plants about 12 inches apart for best coverage. Candytuft is a lovely annual flowering plant that will blossom through the summer months up until fall. Its gorgeous blooms will attract an array of beneficial insects.
