Description

Grow a garden filled with Alpine Forget-Me-Not flowers, from freshly harvested Myosotis alpestris flower seeds. Alpine Forget-Me-Not Mixture will produce a lovely blend of pink, white, carmine and blue colored flowers. The blooms are roughly a quarter of an inch in diameter, displaying 5 petals which surround a yellow buttoned center. These tiny flowers bloom through the summer months and stand above attractive green foliage. Alpine Forget-Me-Not plants themselves, will reach a mature height of roughly 16 to 18 inches tall.

Alpine Forget-Me-Not is categorized as a biennial / annual flowering plant. This cool weather wildflower will establish itself quickly, growing and blooming profusely through the warm months of summer, up until late fall. When the weather becomes cooler, the plants will wilt on the surface, later dying with the first frost. The plants are known to readily self seed and can return the following year from seeds that fall to the bare ground beneath. If the winter months are not too harsh, your Forget-Me-Not plants can survive, regrowing from roots. You can also collect seeds from dried flower heads at the end of the Autumn season to resow yourself, when the Spring rolls around.

Alpine Forget-Me-Not flowers are not just beautiful in the garden, their attractive leaves, stems and blooms can also be used indoors as well. Myosotis is a perfect selection for use as a cut flower in all sorts of floral arrangements and bouquets. These beauties can also be dried out for arts & crafts as well. Plant Alpine Forget-Me-Not directly in the garden, in flower beds, pots & containers and in rock gardens. The clusters of tiny little blooms will attract an array of beneficial insects to the garden, such as butterflies, hummingbirds, bumblebees & honeybees.

You might consider purchasing individual seed packets in bulk to pass out as favors at your next party or event. Forget-Me-Not seed packets make an excellent giveaway in many instances, such as weddings, bridal showers, baby showers & more. Sowing The Seed

Alpine Forget-Me-Not flower seeds can be started indoors or directly outdoors. If started indoors, we recommend sowing in peat pots, 6 to 8 weeks prior to the last frost. Sow the seeds directly to the surface of the soil, in groups of 3 or 4 per pot. Do not cover the seeds with topsoil, since they will require a bit of direct light to properly germinate. Transplant entire pots, or direct sow outdoors when the weather is warm and all danger of frost has passed.

Growing Conditions

Alpine Forget-Me-Not flowers are grown in areas that will receive partial shade for the majority of the day. They can thrive in full sunlight as well, however temperatures should be below 80F. Make sure that the soil is fertile and rich in organic matter. You will also want to provide them with a well draining medium. To increase your drainage, we recommend adding a light compost to any areas that consist of hard, compact soil. Water the seeds daily with a mist setting or spray bottle so that they remain moist until germination occurs.

Germination & Growth

Forget-Me-Not seeds usually begin to germinate within roughly 7 to 14 days after sowing. The plants reach a mature height of roughly 10 to 18 inches tall, spanning 6 to 8 inches wide. The plants themselves can be spaced roughly 12 inches apart from one another. Forget-Me-Not flowers are an excellent selection for use as a groundcover and can be added to floral arrangements & bouquets as well. They will also attract an array of beneficial insects to the garden, such as bumblebees, honeybees, hummingbirds, butterflies & more.
