Description
Grow Giant Star, Mckana's Columbine from fresh Aquilegia Caerulea flower seeds. Mckana's Columbine will produce star shaped blooms that are roughly 2 inches in diameter. These delightful, double blooms come in a plethora of color combinations including, white, yellow, blue, red & pink. The Mckana's Columbine Mixture will grow plants that mature to a height of 24 to 36 inches tall on average. The seeds can be grouped together in mounds of 4 to 5 for 1 complete plant, allowing the plants to spread about 18 inches wide.
Aquilegia / Columbine plants are grown as a perennial flowering plant, meaning that they will establish a deep root system to regrow the following growing season. Most varieties of Aquilegia may not bloom the first year, however the wait is well worth it. Giant Star, Mckana's Columbine will begin to bloom within the first few weeks of the summer months. The flowers won't last long, however the foliage will remain, presenting bright green and attractive leaves. These beauties will attract an array of beneficial insects such as butterflies, bumblebees, hummingbirds, ladybugs & more.
The seeds can be a bit tricky to grow, but with the proper germination techniques, nothing is impossible. Aquilegia flower seeds can be stored in cold storage for a number of weeks prior to sowing. This process of stratification helps trick the seeds into an otherwise natural wintering process. Place Mckana's Columbine flowers in borders, along driveways, walkways & fences or in pots & containers. They will also produce a lovely carpet of color by the masses in any open or empty area that you want coverage in.
