Dwarf Pink Alyssum, scientifically known as Lobularia maritima, is a charming tender perennial often favored for its compact growth and vibrant pink flowers. These diminutive blooms create a lush carpet of color, making Dwarf Pink Alyssum an excellent choice for edging, rock gardens, or as a ground cover in garden beds. Its low-growing habit and ability to spill over the edges of containers also make it a popular selection for hanging baskets and window boxes, where it can cascade beautifully, adding a soft, floral touch.

This plant is not only visually appealing but also highly functional in the garden ecosystem. Dwarf Pink Alyssum is renowned for attracting a variety of pollinators, including bees and butterflies, which are drawn to its sweet fragrance and nectar-rich flowers. It's easy to grow, thriving in full sun to partial shade and preferring well-drained soil, which makes it an ideal choice for both novice and experienced gardeners. Its resilience and low maintenance needs contribute to its popularity, ensuring that gardens can enjoy a continuous bloom from spring through to the first frost, enhancing biodiversity and beauty with minimal effort.

GROWERS TIP

Alyssum is extremely easy to grow from seed and can be started indoors, or directly outdoors. If starting indoors, sow 3 to 5 seeds per starter pot, 6 to 8 weeks prior to the last frost. Transplant or direct sow in the spring when temperatures are at least 65°F and all danger of frost has passed. Once the plants are well established they are quite drought resistant and deer resistant as well.
