Description

Grow a garden filled with the delightful Forget-Me-Not, from freshly harvested Myosotis sylvatica flower seeds. Forget-Me-Not is an heirloom wildflower that will produce pale blue flowers, accented with yellow centers. The plants mature to a height of roughly 10 to 18 inches tall and up to 8 inches wide. Each individual branch will display a cluster of flowers, populated with as many as 10 flowers. Because of their short growth habit, they are often times used as a groundcover and can be added to borders, pots & containers, along walkways, driveways and anywhere in which the soil stays somewhat moist. Forget-Me-Not flowers are not only attractive to humans, but many beneficial insects will cling to these beauties as well. Insects, such as butterflies, bumblebees, hummingbirds, honeybees & even ladybugs will be visible throughout the warm months of Spring and Summer.

Forget-Me-Not is categorized as a biennial / annual flowering plant. This cool weather wildflower will establish itself quickly, growing and blooming profusely through the warm months of summer, up until late fall. When the weather becomes cooler, the plants will wilt on the surface, later dying with the first frost. The plants are known to readily self seed and can return the following year from seeds that fall to the bare ground beneath. If the winter months are not too harsh, your Forget-Me-Not plants can survive, regrowing from roots. You can also collect seeds from dried flower heads at the end of the Autumn season to resow yourself, when the Spring rolls around.

Forget-Me-Not flowers are not just beautiful in the garden, their attractive leaves, stems and blooms can also be used indoors as well. Myosotis is a perfect selection for use as a cut flower in all sorts of floral arrangements and bouquets. These beauties can also be dried out for arts & crafts as well.

You might consider purchasing individual seed packets in bulk to pass out as favors at your next party or event. Forget-Me-Not seed packets make an excellent giveaway in many instances, such as weddings, bridal showers, baby showers & more. Sowing The Seed

Forget-Me-Not flower seeds can be started indoors or directly outdoors. If started indoors, we recommend sowing in peat pots, 6 to 8 weeks prior to the last frost. Sow the seeds directly to the surface of the soil, in groups of 3 or 4 per pot. Do not cover the seeds with topsoil, since they will require a bit of direct light to properly germinate. Transplant entire pots, or direct sow outdoors when the weather is warm and all danger of frost has passed.

Growing Conditions

Forget-Me-Not flowers are grown in areas that will receive partial shade for the majority of the day. They can thrive in full sunlight as well, however temperatures should be below 80F. Make sure that the soil is fertile and rich in organic matter. You will also want to provide them with a well draining medium. To increase your drainage, we recommend adding a light compost to any areas that consist of hard, compact soil. Water the seeds daily with a mist setting or spray bottle so that they remain moist until germination occurs.

Germination & Growth

Your Baby’s Breath seeds will begin to germinate in roughly 7 to 14 days after sowing. The plants will grow to a mature height of 8 to 18 inches tall and can be spaced roughly 10 inches apart from one another. These popular flowers are mainly grown for use as a cut flower, in floral arrangements and bouquets as well.
